Delta 9 THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol)

So much random, republished, regurgitated content floats around the internet and other media outlets surrounding Delta 9 THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol). There is an overabundance of information with many facts-based statements of knowledge “out there” enlightening the public with oftentimes inaccurate and/or unsupported content.

The reality is we have a lot yet to learn about Delta 9 THC and all of its sisters, brothers, and cousin cannabinoids such as Delta 8 THC, Delta 10 THC, CBD, CBN, and CBG, and those are only a few of Delta 9 THC’s cannabinoid family members. Studies now show the number of cannabinoids in cannabis and hemp to be over 100 with new cannabinoid family members continuing to be discovered. How exciting!

Here are a few things we do know about Delta 9 THC…

Delta-9 THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) is the cannabinoid that most cannabis consumers know and love, responsible for the psychoactive, euphoric feeling that comes with consuming THC products in recreational or medical-legal states. While fully legal in some states, it has yet to be legalized without restriction at the federal level.

Delta 9 THC is a naturally occurring compound present in hemp and cannabis. There are hundreds of chemical compound entities and cannabinoid compounds that have been discovered in hemp and cannabis. Delta 9 THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) is the second most abundant cannabinoid compound found in hemp and cannabis with CBD (cannabidiol) cannabinoid compound taking first place.

Delta 9 Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the primary psychoactive compound in cannabis plants. Its role in the plant is to protect itself from the sun’s harsh rays as well as from pesky insect invasions. When consumed by the human body, the Delta 9 THC compound, binds strongest to our CB1 receptors. CB1 receptors are located mainly in the brain, particularly in the substantia nigra, the basal ganglia, limbic system, hippocampus, and cerebellum. CB1 receptors can also be found in the peripheral nervous system, liver, thyroid, uterus, and bones.

THC affects both the mind and the body. When consumed, specific effects are hard to define because THC affects everyone uniquely. No two experiences are the same.

Some experience euphoric feelings while others feel panicked or anxious. Identified as a psychoactive compound, means Delta 9 THC binds strongest to the CB1 receptors, located mostly in the brain.

Hemp producers, like Alpine's, are extracting Delta 9 THC from hemp and have been able to use the 0.3% Delta-9 THC regulations to their advantage and manufacture Delta 9 THC products that meet this ratio. To ensure quality and standards, Alpine’s uses DEA-Certified labs for all of its testing requirements.
